GENDER PARITY THROUGH TRAINING & ADVOCACY
The Fifty Fifty Group is organising a series of training targeting various stakeholders. The main aim of the training is to increase the participation of women in politics.

A CAPACITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT OF WOMEN IN WARD COMMITTEES
This was conducted in selected Ward Committees in the four administrative
regions of the country in the North, South, East and Western Area.
The Annual Rajiv Bendre Public Lecture Series
The Annual Rajiv Bendre Public Lecture Series was launched at the British
Council. This was organised to bid farewell to Rajiv, the former director of
the British Council and show appreciation for his invaluable contributions to
the empowerment of Sierra Leone women.
Gender Action Research (GAR) Workshop
The group was represented by the President, Hadja Mariama Fofana at a
Gender Action Research Inception Workshop at OXFAM House Oxford. The
workshop brought together OXFAM staff and partners from Sierra Leone,
Cambodia, UK and Burkina Faso.
Partnership with OXFAM SL
The Fifty Fifty Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with OXFAM on
21st April 2006. The two organisations will work on the PACER Project. The
objective is to promote just, equitable, accountable and representative
governance in Sierra Leone through equal participation of women and men
in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of poverty reduction
and development initiatives in Sierra Leone.
Collaboration with LAWCLA and FAWE
We collaborated with these organisations to launch an Abridged and
Simplified Version of the Handbook entitled "Unequal Rights Discriminatory
Laws Against Women in Sierra Leone.
Training of Ward Committees in Social Accountability
With a small grant from the World Bank, training was organised for female
ward committees from the Southern, Northern and Eastern regions of Sierra
Leone. The aim of the training was to provide female ward committee
members with the tools to be used to exact accountability from their Local
Councils.
Lease of State Land
The government of Sierra Leone has leased land at Tower Hill to the group
for the construction of offices and a resource center. The Group is seeking
support to carry out construction on this land.
Training of Trainers
A one day training was organised for trainers who would train female
aspirants for the forthcoming elections. The training was funded by the
Westminster Foundation for Democracy and it involved training aspirants on
Public Speaking, campaigning, lobbying, advocacy and so on. Two hand
books were produced for this training – one for Participants and another for
trainers.
